A time of year to legitimately overindulge, to pamper ourselves after reaching the end of the calendar year and to stock up on calories for the colder winter temperatures. A time to contemplate the year gone by and focus on the positive things in life despite the problems that we are faced in our day to day lives. This year some of Barcelona’s top chefs have put together a number of options in order to celebrate the Christmas and New Year’s holidays with family and friends, many of which are accommodated within the city’s hotels. Here we present a selection of our recommendations for where and how to best enjoy this time of year, to help get say goodbye to 2013 and welcome 2014 which already has a better ring to it!

  • 1. HOTEL OMM

    C. Rosselló, 265 (Eixample)

    The New Year’s Eve menu is created by Roca Moo head chef Felip Llufriu with wines selected by Audrey Doré (head sommelier) which ushers in the count down to twelve o’clock with a gala event with multiple surprises, toasts, dancing and live music until 2 am in the lobby-bar. Afterwards Ommsession’s best Djs will keep the night going till the wee hours.

    Hotel Le Méridien Barcelona, Ramblas, 111 (Raval)

    Cent Onze has created a special menu designed for these festive dates not only for hotel guests, but open to the public. The New Year’s Eve includes a welcome cocktail, chocolate con churros (type of doughnut) and a New Year’s Eve gala. The Buffet Lunch for New Year’s Day and Reyes (The Epiphany, Jan 6th) also includes specially prepared dishes.

    Plaça Doctor Andreu, S/N (Sant Gervasi Tibidabo)

    Merbeyé cocktail bar was a cult 1980s Barcelona hangout and is still today a designer landmark, one of its founders was Ferran Amat, founder of Vinçon as well as Javier Mariscal who designed bespoke artworks for the interior. Offering classic and signature cocktails together with other attractions such as its spectacular location, on Tibidabo. The newly opened Merbeyé Sky is Barcelona’s most elevated terrace with panoramic views, ​​also available to hire for parties and events.

    C. Pare Gallifa, 3 (Santa Caterina)

    Imaginative, quality food from the award-winning chef Ramón Freixa (two Michelin stars at ‘Ramon Freixa Madrid’), right in the heart of the city.

  • 5. FONDA ESPAÑA

    C. Sant Pau, 9-11 (Raval)

    A ‘tavern’ located within the Hotel España, a jewel of the Catalan Moderism style, the work of Lluís Domènech i Montaner from the beginning of the 20th century which has been completely refurbished to contemporary standards.

    C. Mallorca, 248-250 (Eixample)

    Modern day Bistrot where the prestigious chef Martín Berasategui brings his celebrated cooking to a wider public.
