Muji promotes sustainable fashion
The Japanese brand launches two eco-friendly collections
The Yak and ReMuji collections, from the same creators as the ‘mujirushi ryohin’ concept, are inspired by their concern for the environment. Once again organic cotton is the main protagonist.
For Autumn/Winter ‘17 Muji presents a line of basic clothing articles for women and men using yak wool, in a palette of natural colours (grey, green and brown, characteristic tones of the brand). Yaks are a breed of cattle that live at high altitudes in Central Asia and survive the harsh climatic conditions thanks to their double layer of wool. Muji uses the soft and strong inner mantle to create this range of Yak wool pieces that share a similar thickness and warmth with cashmere. Yak wool is also a more sustainable alternative to cashmere: the breed doesn’t contribute to the desertification of Chinese drylands, and the growing popularity of its wool has created new opportunities for the people of the Mongolian steppe.

On the other hand ReMuji is a collection that makes use of recycled clothing from previous seasons by reusing them in three shades of Japanese indigo, and giving them a completely new look. Due to the nature of the dye, traditionally used in the Edo era of Japan, each piece is unique. The line, for women and men, will be arriving this November at the Rambla de Catalunya shop.

In addition to these collections this winter Muji will also be offering ecological cotton flannel. Sourced from “healthy lands”, free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers for a minimum of three years, subscribing to the company's philosophy of making simple, environmentally friendly and safe consumer products. The garments (shirts, dresses and pyjamas for women, men and children) come pre-washed guaranteeing their fit and finish from first use retaining their original texture over time. The flannel is also specially designed for greater warmth and durability.
