Moritz Feed Dog 2025

An ideal film and fashion programme for a grey weekend

By Juan Montenegro 21.03.25

The ninth edition of MORITZ FEED DOG, the Barcelona Fashion Film Festival, kicked off on Wednesday 19 at the Mooby Bosque cinemas in Gràcia, where all the screenings will take place, and will conclude on Sunday 23 March. This year around twenty films make up the festival's programme, which, since its beginnings, has offered very different looks at fashion, from very different angles, inviting us to dream, to learn and also to reflect.

From the documentary film as an instrument of criticism of a fascinating industry in which, in many cases, the reality of work and business policies are more than questionable. Or as an anthropological analysis of the different social phenomena and cultural movements, of the ideals of beauty of certain periods, of everything that constitutes the language of fashion as a sign of the times.

Through the film as a biographical testimony of the great creators and creatives who work in the world of fashion —designers, photographers, magazine editors, models, celebrities, etc. —, which allows us to get to know in depth the legacy of these professionals and artists who forged the history and evolution of fashion and also to get a little closer to the person behind these ‘big names’.

Or fashion cinema as another media, to keep abreast of the current scene, emerging designers, etc. in a perhaps more dynamic or more entertaining, but definitely artistic way.

To kick off this year's festival they have chosen Twiggy (2024), by British filmmaker Sadie Frost. A moving portrait of Lesley Hornby (UK, 1949), a girl born and raised in the suburbs of London, who at the age of 16, at a dizzying pace, became the first world-famous supermodel in barely a year.

Frost brilliantly chronicles the rise of Twiggy, perhaps the most iconic face of the Swinging Sixties. The most remarkable thing about the film is to discover that a girl with short hair, false eyelashes, short stature, very slender legs and a silhouette with almost no curves and no breasts, managed to conquer the world with her very authentic personality. No posture or artifice, no pretensions to be more than just herself. Only her passion for what she was doing, her ability to understand and absorb everything new that came her way and her self-assurance.

Proof of this is one of the best moments of the film, when Woody Allen interviews her in New York - Twiggy had conquered the United States - and tries to invalidate her in front of the cameras, wanting to make her look like a mere frivolous and uncultured model. Twiggy, with her naturalness and sympathy, not only shows him that it is not necessary to be a connoisseur to be an individual, but also turns the tables on him, making a fool of him. The cinema hall burst with applause from the audience.

The following selection of images from the Moritz Feed Dog 2025 has been made as a bit of a recommendation. All the films are certainly worth seeing, but it is impossible to do so during a single weekend.

For the last three years the festival has had an online site through the CaixaForum+ platform, so you can watch the films comfortably at home, sipping a Moritz or whatever your favourite drink is, enjoying good cinema, fashion and the beautiful and inspiring things in life.
