La Sibèria Pelletería Barcelona

A/W 2017

14.02.17

For the last 125 years the Peletería La Sibèria has been a classic reference when it comes to leather and fur garments in Barcelona, from the aristocracy to the bourgeoisie, to fashion lovers from all social backgrounds who have worn this label since 1891 when the business was originally founded. La Sibèria was the first furriery showroom in Catalonia and in fact in Spain, nowadays it continues to reinvent itself catering to a contemporary market with stylish fur and leather garments that are beautifully crafted and displayed within its shop windows at its iconic location on Rambla Catalunya with Gran Vía. At the helm of La Sibèria today is the fourth generation of furriers, cousins Victòria Espar Almeda and Marc Espar Figueras, who specialize in the treatment of leathers and produce yearly prêt-à-porter collections.

The shop windows on the chaflan date from the time of the founder José Ticó Rebert who introduced La Sibèria’s sophisticated concept of elegant furs to Barcelona society at the end of the 19th Century, a crucial period of creativity in the city’s history. Inspired by the “snowy landscapes of Siberia,” Josep Ticó expanded his fur garments business throughout Spain in the early 1900s, with clients including royalty and artists such as Picasso, Dalí and Miró. Now, Victòria and Marc (VM) use the most up-to-date technologies to preserve their raw materials combined with avant-garde creativity, that brings together the label’s heritage and knowledge of the craft in a modern and much more competitive market place.

Victòria and Marc recently presented their current selection of fur coats and leather, that also mark the brand’s 125th anniversary, at Barcelona’s 080 Fashion Show. VM’s La Sibèria began the catwalk show with a collision of contrasting instruments; violin, guitar, trumpet and trombone, under a smoky ambience with the models strutting down the centre of the runway, a preview to the A/W 2017 collection. The acoustic compositions of highs and lows were reflected by the designs on display, exquisite combinations of dark maroon and black furs with lighter notes, such as yellow and pink, perfectly in synch with the soundtrack.
