Florabotanica / Balenciaga

By Jaume Vidiella 07.12.12

This year there are several novelties in the world of perfumes that we can guarantee will surprise and delight with their original and innovative packaging. Two of these have been released by the multinational Coty, the amusing Dot by Marc Jacobs that we reviewed in our summer edition (b-guided #52) and a new one by Balenciaga which under the dreamy name ‘Florabotanica’ is one of the most impacting ideas of the year. A perfume bottle featuring clean lines recalling Op Art sculpture, with its black and white lines and flashes of colour recalling the works of Stanczak, Vasarely and Flavin’s luminary sculptures. A marked air of the 60s, very much of the moment, the period when Balenciaga reached the zenith of his creative heights, as well as being the most referenced decade by the ultramodern, Nicolas Ghesquière, current director of the firm. The aroma is a unique vegetable cocktail with essences such as vetiver, amber and carnation, with really fresh notes like mint as well. All enveloped by an experimental rose, fantastical and secret that lends the perfume its incisive and magical character.
