Good news is hard to come by right now, it’s especially unusual to hear about an independent designer who is doing well, whose products are appreciated and are selling, that the business is profitable and not just all about looking successful (given that in many cases there is official funding involved). It’s also true that within the world of accessories the supporting structures are even thin on the ground, as evidenced by the Lucía Vergara collections (famous for her earrings) all the more reason to applaud her success and proof that in today’s market things must be done differently.
This artist who is resident in Barcelona has a lot going for her. The first is obvious: the product. At the beginning her pieces were mostly romantic and delicate with a certain vintage quality that has become very popular over the last few years but is becoming too main-stream to be really considered fashionable, however she has managed to go beyond the anecdotal to achieve the specific. Her work is now unmistakeable.  Her style instinct (you only have to see her in person to understand) is inspired by happy childhood memories, with a certain nostalgia for the excesses of the 50s and the 80s, as well as her travels around the world (Stockholm, New York, Miami, Tokyo, always London), together with her reflections on the important movements in the history of design, like Memphis which is reinterpreted in her latest collection, make an ideal finished product, technically simple, affordable and beautiful.
The second is her media presence: she explains her vision through her blog without being overly self-indulgent. We discreetly learn about her creative process, her travels and other inspirations. The blog is bilingual, allowing her to collect followers from around the world. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful aspects are the boxes in which the pieces are packaged, whether it be from the very successful online shop or selected retail outlets. She works with a different graphic artist for each collection: Antonio Ladrillo, Mike Swaney, Ana Montiel, Miju Lee, Littleisdrawing, Klas Ernflo… All this is complemented by careful advertising campaigns undertaken with photographers like David Urbano always using non-professional models that reflect the hundreds of girls that collect these 'must have' pieces in their jewellery boxes.
