Varela

A refreshed classic

18.07.22

Varela is a classic tapas restaurant and terrace located in the Plaza Molina where Vía Augusta and Balmes coincide. The restaurant has recently been restyled, both the interior and the food offering. What has not changed however is the taste of seasonal cuisine with a Mediterranean flavour. The new interior design underlines this aspect of the cuisine with its Mediterranean blue colour. Like the tapas served there Varela is a place for sharing, amongst friends, family, acquaintances, romantic encounters etc..

Varela (formerly Casa Varela) reinvents itself with a much simpler menu that includes a selection of 24 tapas, which refers to the former Casa Varela restaurant. Traditional dishes but with something extra: ham croquettes, Josper wings (sense feina) with kimchi or bravas mayonnaise, to give just a few examples. Among the recommended dishes for sharing are the Anchovies 00 from the Cantabrian Sea, Croquette of ham and Tosco croquette, Wings "sense feina", Cannelloni of duck confit, Taco of teriyaki chicken with murgol sauce Picanha hamburger brioche with Josper sauce special.

Another important change to the menu is the inclusion of a series of sandwiches or rolls which according to the instructions on the menu are eaten “with the hands” like many other tapas: pibil Suckling pork taco or Teriyaki chicken with murgolas mushroom dressing, and the classic Squid sandwich with lime mayonnaise is one of the most popular, not forgetting the Picanha hamburger brioche with its homemade sauce, a mini “entrepan” that has quickly become a new classic.
