Javier de las Muelas Updates

By Silvia Micolau 03.12.12

Javier de la Muelas owner of the Dry Martini cocktail bar and restless spirit always on the look out for new opportunities to entice us with his cocktails has recently marked a new initiative at The Academy located beside his emblematic Barcelona cocktail bar. Conceived as a creative laboratory and educational space specialising in master-classes in mixology and now serving a midday menu from Monday to Friday.

The Academy offers three different menus for a fixed price of 33 Euros (including water, wines and coffee) each of which consists of a ‘tapa of the day’, and choice of 3 starters, 3 main courses and 3 desserts. Roasted Sweet Potato Purée with Caramelised Almonds and Curry is included within the autumn menu as well as the Rabbit Risotto, Ravioli with ‘Rustido’ and Torta del Casar Cream Cheese and ‘Pil Pil’ Hake served with Thyme and Ratatouille.

In addition to the lunch menu Javier also presented his Christmas Cocktail 2012 collection. One of them is the Shooting Star cocktail, made using La Poire Grey Goose vodka, lime juice and vanilla syrup. They can be ordered at The Academy’s emblematic 7 meter long bar counter.

His latest creation however is an application for the iPad and iPhone ‘Cocktail Art by Javier de las Muelas’ with an imaginatively designed interface conceived specifically for users to “recreate moments, experiences and sensations” experienced in any one of his many cocktail bars in Spain or indeed other cocktail bars around the planet (it also includes a global guide and locator for recommended cocktail bars). The application provides users with the history behind the cocktails and creations including ingredients and instructions for step by step recipes (121 in total) and specifies the hardware to use (De las Muelas in fact has produced his own line of utensils) and everything else one needs to know to create the perfect ambience for home cocktails.
