SuperAuto

Free spirited cuisine

28.04.26

AutoRosellón is now SuperAuto, the same location but an updated food offering and a very different interior décor. The cuisine could be described as freestyle, international dishes conceived for sharing with a mixture of Eastern Mediterranean, Chinese and South American influences. But the approach is eclectic, with recipes that are hard to pin down, unexpected combinations that mix and match culinary inspirations. The kebab gyozo for example, or the Entrecôte carpaccio with chutney and demi-glace that mixes Asian and European ingredients in a harmonious blend. The succinct menu is changed daily, printed on paper and clipped to a noticeboard on the façade beside the entrance – it can also be downloaded via a QR code attached to the tables.

Super Auto is owned by the same team as Balabusta, Ronit Stern and Rafael Campos, it’s located on the opposite side of the chaflan which is partly responsible for putting Enric Granados on the gastronomic map of Barcelona. Both have a similar attention to detail, with the emphasis on the produce and culinary creativity. Similarly to Balabusta, the emphasis is on local produce, Km0 wherever possible, seasonal dishes that change regularly. The menu features vegetarian, fish and meat options.

Bárbara Aurell (Espacio en Blanco) and Max Altés (The Thing Thinks) collaborated on the interior design of Superauto, inspired by the irreverent cuisine of Ronit Stern. The vibe is that of a casa de comidas, a neighbourhood bistro, with closely packed seating and a constant coming and going of diners and wait staff. At the centre of the space is a bar counter made from stainless steel with seating along the front. The colour scheme is based on golden ochre and earthy tones for the flooring and furniture, as well as the bench seating built into the perimeter walls clad with ceramic tiles. This same chromatic palette is carried through to the outdoor terrace seating. The stainless-steel bar surface is repeated in the small metal tables, lighting and other accessories. The effect is hygienic but equally warm and characterful.
