The best way to describe Plaza Real is like an outdoor performance space; people watching, buskers, street theatre, noise, it has it all. The terraces that line the perimeter are like the theatre seats. And now with Samantha’s there’s another great place to observe Plaza Real, from inside and outside. Combining people watching with Mediterranean cuisine and wines, enjoying local produce is logical because Samantha’s is located halfway between the Mediterranean and La Boqueria, Barcelona’s famous food market.
The gastronomic offering brings together all the experience and knowledge of its chef Solomon Tabisaura who, with a professional career of more than 20 years, specialises in authentic market cuisine. Here at Samantha’s the food is modern and creative with varied dishes. Among the outstanding choices on the autumn menu are the Segovia Suckling Pig, Angus carpaccio, Fish of the day from the Boqueria market, toasted marinated Mackerel or the homemade Octopus and Squid croquettes in their own ink. Not forgetting Solomon's specialties, such as Grilled Octopus and Prawns and his unmistakable take on torrija (type of bread pudding, a must try).

The building that accommodates Samantha’s is a Barcelona icon. Emblematic restaurants and bars such as El Bazar de la Isla de Cuba, which opened in 1876, or the famous jewellery shop La Isla de Cuba, from which the original stained glass windows are still preserved.

Plaza Real is one of the most spectacular squares not only in Barcelona but Europe. Its history reflects how Barcelona developed into a modern European city. Carved out of the Gothic Quarter in the early 19th Century the square is interwoven with the surrounding streets. The neo-classical colonnade was designed to provide order to this chaotic area of the city which became a very fashionable place to live. The lamp posts are by Antoni Gaudi, one of his first designs. Observing encounters between locals and tourists makes this square unique. Samantha’s is another great reason to visit this part of the city, to start the night, before or after a performance at the Liceu (located on the other side of the square), or any of the other wonderful music options nearby, or just for a cocktail to watch the world go by.
