SALT
Barcelona’s coolest chiringuito
SALT is a gastronomic restaurant/lounge located on the lower ground floor level of the iconic W Barcelona hotel in Barceloneta’s port area. To kick off the summer Sergio Domínguez, its young Spanish chef, recently presented a new seasonal menu for both the restaurant and beach club located directly in front. With its spectacular location, literally on Barceloneta’s sandy beach at the foot of the high rise hotel, it’s no surprise then that Salt’s new menu is inspired by the Mediterranean culture and diet. The views from the restaurant terrace and beach club provide a panorama on the city’s evolving relationship with the sea, incredibly this area was off limits to the general public less than a decade ago. Nowadays SALT is the final destination at the end of the spectacular recently completed paseo marítimo.
Dominguez puts the emphasis on shared dishes and tapas featuring fish and seafood. The new additions are based on market fresh and seasonal ingredients, with ceviche options including shrimp, sea bass and tuna varieties, new salad dishes like the eponymous Salt and Tabouleh as well as the gourmet burgers like the Angus Twist and one featuring Wagyu meat. For dessert lovers the menu also includes the Salt Townie, a combination of a tartlet and chocolate brownie with raspberry sauce over accompanied by passion fruit sorbet. The beach club menu also has a choice of snacks which are served all day long on the terrace or the beach, including flautas (type of long thin sandwich roll), smoothies, nachos, traditional gazpacho, beef burger or lighter options like the Salt Beach Salad.

Whether during the afternoon, afterwork or the evening there can be few venues that can equal SALT as a backdrop for drinks and cocktails in Barcelona, the seasonal reworking of the food menu is matched by new additions to the cocktail menu, such as the Salt Martini, Green Lady, Modern Mojito and Sao Paolo Sip. There are four new SALT SPRITZ combinations (the house special); Summer Sun, Little Italy, Mad Orange and Watermelon Spritz. With the addition of music from resident Dj and an obliging postcard sunset this is probably as good as it gets.
