By Brian Gallagher 30.05.19

A corner of the terrace of the Mandarin Oriental, one of Barcelona’s most exclusive hotels, has been adapted to accommodate the pop-up restaurant Petit R de Ruinart which will operate till the end of June. The four meter high glass pavilion sits on the Mimosa Terrace and has blinds fitted to its windows allowing a black-out interior that sets the scenario for an audio-visual and gastronomic extravaganza. Based on a collaboration with the renowned Champagne brand Maison Ruinart the tasting menu consisting of five courses is paired with five champagnes from the famous maison with its headquarters in the Champagne region of north east France.

Ruinart dates back to 1729, founded by Nicolas Ruinart in Reims, it is the world’s first Maison de Champagne, Petit R is the first collaboration of this nature that has been offered to the public outside of Reims. A meeting of gastronomy and art, the visuals consist of a specially commissioned animation created by Japanese artist Kanako Kuno. Each course is introduced with a story that is projected over the diner’s plate, eating utensils and surrounding area. Eventually culminating with an animation that takes over the entire table.
