Oriol Balaguer, the renowned Barcelona pastry chef has received many awards over the years including Best Pastry Chef in Spain, Award for Professional of the Year and Best Dessert in the World amongst others. In 2002 Balaguer opened his first patisserie in Barcelona, nowadays he has gastronomic spaces throughout Spain. He has also published several books in collaboration with Planeta Gastro dealing with chocolate and desserts.

Oriol Balaguer's latest book, "Bake It Simple" contains 60 recipes for both experienced and amateur pastry chefs. This cookbook provides easy pastry recipes that can be prepared in the home. Balaguer's famous croissant recipe, which was awarded Best Croissant of Spain in 2014, is also included in the book.

    "Bake It Simple" is divided into six different sections; Cakes, Biscuits, Specialities, Dough, Desserts and Chocolates and details. The book begins with an introduction to explain his techniques, ingredients and the utensils that can be used for recipes in the book. Each recipe is provided with a title, list of ingredients and cooking instructions. All the photos are excellent providing readers a close-up, side-view, far-away view, or whatever view may be needed to show every detail of the dish. The book is easy to read and understand. Instructions are set up step-by-step with numbers so that it is clear to audiences. There is also a space on each recipe page for the readers to write their own notes. An index makes finding your favourite recipe even easier.

    La Xocolateria is the most recent of Oriol Balaguer's chocolate boutiques in Barcelona, located in the Born neighbourhood, serving all of Oriol Balaguer's creations in one shop including his most famous dessert, 8 Textures, combines 8 different textures of chocolate to create the ultimate chocolate cake, and he received the award Best Dessert in the World in 2001 for this particular creation.
