Nandu Jubany / Majestic Hotel & Spa

A good fit

By B. Gallagher 22.09.15

Some of the most talented chefs in Barcelona have entered into collaboration with some of the city’s most iconic hotels over recent years, Carme Ruscalleda with the Mandarin Oriental, Xavier Franco with Ohla Hotel and Sergi Arola with the Hotel Arts to name just a few. This combination of forces is undoubtedly beneficial for both parties given the growing interest in culinary themes and the profile of Barcelona’s excellent hotels. One of the most interesting current pairings is formed by Nandu Jubany and the Majestic Hotel & Spa, where the Catalan chef has tailored his cuisine to the several different spaces that represent the hotel’s varied gastronomic offering.

Nandu Jubany first learned his trade at the family’s restaurant Monistrol de Calders, subsequently he trained in the Basque country with figures such as Juan María Arzak and Martín Berasategui before opening his own restaurant Can Jubany (Osona) in collaboration with his wife Anna Orte in 1995. Jubany has won several major awards and is a highly respected exponent of Catalan cuisine together with Carles Abellán, Ramón Freixa, Jordi Artal and Jordi Herrera.

No less spectacular is the lunch time menu created by the celebrated chef served daily at the Restaurante del Majestic. Based on the best quality local and seasonal ingredients. The options are choice of starters served buffet style, a main course prepared to order within the adjacent open plan kitchen (customers can choose between meat, fish, pasta or rice) and the home made dessert selection, a great introduction to Jubany’s cuisine for 29 Eur.. This year the hotel has added a winter garden to the internal courtyard where the restaurant is located allowing diners to take advantage of the unique Mediterranean daylight in an attractive environment surrounded by plants.
