Mesa Quince
Argentine cuisine in the Eixample
The enormous front window of Mesa Quince overlooking c/ Muntaner is a clear statement of intent. The stacked timber logs against the glass make it obvious from outside that the food offering at this restaurant revolves around the barbeque, specifically Argentine barbeque or asado argentino. The Josper grill is at the heart of Mesa Quince’s kitchen. Nevertheless, there’s something for everyone on the menu, meat lovers and others. Classic dishes paired with good wines in order to celebrate those moments shared with family, friends or on one’s own.
Mesa Quince is managed by a young team of chefs and wait staff headed by Patricio (Pato) Costa, owner and maître d’, together with chef Facundo Reynoso. The ambience is informal and matches the interior décor with its vertiginous ceilings and raw finishes. A modern take on the traditional Argentinean grill which is supposed to be accompanied by good wine and conversation.

The food offering includes a selection of classic barbecue dishes that chef Facundo Reynoso has adapted from his experience at other restaurants to Mesa Quince. For example, the renowned potato millefeuille with blood sausage paste and lime. And the traditional roasts such as Rib-eye or Beef rib: perfectly cooked, juicy, served with a variety of garnishes such as chimichurri butter, roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes (not parmentier). Not forgetting standard classics that have been tweaked, the Creole chorizo and arugula served between choripan, with parmesan and fig jam and the iconic Sweetbread, with smoked fennel puree and roasted lemon. Local fare is represented by the juicy Tortilla (omelette) with sweet potato and roasted onion.

The name of the restaurant Mesa Quince (Table 15) is a reference to the family of Pato and also an actual table in the restaurant. A tribute to his father, who as an avid golfer enjoys meeting with friends for food and drinks after playing golf. Specifically, at table fifteen which is the located directly inside the front entrance by the window where Pato preserves the tradition of food as celebration with conversation and hospitality. The number 15 doesn’t figure on the menu, it’s reserved for a monthly special that will be inspired by the childhood memories of Pato that transport him back to his patria.
