Mercat de Mercats

Market cooking and produce

By Silvia Micolau 16.10.12

This popular celebration of food products and gastronomy will be taking over Barcelona’s Avinguda de la Catedral and Avinguda de Francesc Cambó from the 19th to the 21st of October. This is the third edition promoting quality seasonal products bringing the traditional market stand out onto the city streets.

As with previous editions it’s possible to buy, eat and learn here at the Mercat de Mercats (with workshops and conferences open to the general public taking place at the Aula Gastronòmica, tasting sessions organised by Celler del Sumillers and a journey on the Bus Alicia, a unique space encouraging healthy eating habits using local food products).

As well as the stands representing the best of Barcelona markets, DOP and IGP producers will also be taking part, 23 Catalan wineries, 12 bars and restaurants offering rations, tapas and small portions as well as 27 prestigious chefs from around Catalonia who will be cooking live and sharing their secrets under a series of organised themes; “Bars and unique tapas”, "Cooking, product and territory”, “Cooking in the municipal markets”, “Tapas from around the world“ and “The red tuna fish of L’Ametlla de Mar“ (with a live demonstration of fish filleting).
