A menu to celebrate the first 100 years
Nando Jubany, culinary assessor to the Majestic and Michelin star chef together with the team at the Majestic Hotel & Spa present a gastronomic journey back in time, an experience that savours the last 100 years since this Barcelona institution was founded. Selected dishes from the past are combined with 21st century levels of comfort at the hotel’s dining room which has been redecorated to mark the event, just one of the many activities that are being planned over the course of the year.
The city of Barcelona today is undoubtedly a product of its tourism industry, from its economy to its physical infrastructure, a reality that is reflected by the position it occupies as the third most visited city in Europe. Where and how did it all begin? The Majestic Hotel & Spa provides part of the answer; this luxury hotel located at the very heart of Passeig de Gràcia was and is a pioneering hotel in the city going back to 1918 which this years is marking its centenary. To celebrate a whole series of events and activities will be taking place that includes the publication of a book, Hotel Majestic 1918 – 2018 written by Ángel Miguelsanz Arnalot, that outlines the impact of this Barcelona institution not only on the city but the cultural and political life of the country.

Filled with anecdotes and historical facts the book places the Majestic at the epicentre of some key moments of Spain’s 20th Century journey from Belle Epoque to Civil War, transition to democracy till today. Over all this time one of the key elements has been and remains its gastronomy. Located on Passeig de Gracia the Majestic (or the Majestic Hotel Inglaterra as it started off as) has hosted fine dining since its beginnings. The Italian chefs of its very beginnings to the Michelin star Drolma with Fermin Puig to the famous weekend brunch the Majestic has been for 100 years at the vanguard of Barcelona’s culinary offering.

To mark 100 years of culinary excellence the Special Centenary Menu is being served every Friday within the dinner service which honours the chefs who worked in the kitchens of this luxury hotel reinterpreting and reworking dishes that were served during historical events and celebrations here during the first half of the 20th Century.

The Special Centenary Menu offers visitors to start with a selection of Hors d'oeuvres variés (1918), followed by Consommé Maria Stuart (1927) and a succulent de Lobster cocktail (1935). The menu continues with Fillets of sole 'Marguery' (1918) and Sorbet al champagne (1918), to clean the palette before moving on the next course, the Beef Mignon are bearnaise sauce (1928). The choice of desserts is represented by the ‘Bomba’ Majestic (1918) as well as the 'Cobeilles' of fruit and sweets selection (1935). The menu is paired with an excellent selection of wines from the sommelier of Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona, at a price that honours the centenary anniversary, 100 euros.
