Everthing you want to know about vermouth
No one can deny that over the last decade or so in Barcelona vermouth has become a thing. Having been largely forgotten about during the latter part of the 20th Century the hipster generation is responsible for the resurgence in one of the city’s more civilised customs. Although not widely appreciated Barcelona once has entire bars dedicated to the beverage that originated in ancient times and that was once considered medicinal. For anyone who is not au fait with the world of vermouth but is curious to find out a little more what all the fuss is about Las Vermudas is an ideal place to start. In 2020 is was voted by popular vote the best Vermutería of the city.
Vermouth can be made from red or white wine, it can feature up to 20 botanical marinated ingredients, the drink is graded according to its sweetness, vermouth is an ingredient in many renowned cocktails like the Negroni for instance. These are just some of the interesting facts that can be gleaned by talking to the bar staff or playing one of the tasting games organised by Las Vermudas. The bar has in fact over 22 varieties on display to choose from as well as their own premier vermouth brand.

Las Vermudas has been open for two years and has already positioned itself in the city as a total vermouth shop, with more than 100 references from different corners of the world, and its own vermouth. In this bar vermouth is worshiped.

At its "new generation vermouth bars" (the Embassy of Gracia and the Consulate of Sant Antoni), Las Vermudas not only offers an extensive menu of vermouths and cocktails based on this drink, but also distributes its own products, such as El Cónsul de Las Vermudas and vermouth in a can. The Consul, is made according to the original recipe of the biologist Andrea Senna and Filippo Andriola, the house mixologists.
