La Xerxa, a new chapter

Change of address

By Brian Gallagher 10.07.20

Overlooking Plaça Molina located in the Sant Gervasi-Galvany neighbourhood La Xarxa restaurant has an inviting terrace which provided the ideal re-introduction to eating out after the end of confinement. In fact La Xerxa relocated just before the start of Covid-19 from a few doors away. Now occupying a traditional old bodega (La Bodega) style property complete with an antique cold room that has been reconditioned, as soon as you walk through the doors of La Xerxa the scene is set for tasty food, flowing wine and good conversation.

José Varela is the visionary behind La Xarxa, he spotted an opportunity when the previous owners of No. 2 Placa Molina decided to sell. He embarked upon a new chapter with this relocated emblematic establishment, part of the Grupo Varela, literally just before the confinement in the month of March. However La Xarxa is now up-and-running with chef Carlos Allué at the helm of the culinary offering. The guiding principle at La Xarxa is to interfere with the prime ingredients as little as possible. The menu is not extensive which means that each dish is very carefully though about and appreciated by the loyal clientele.

The food at La Xerxa is designed for sharing, Mediterranean inspired cuisine with market fresh produce, featuring all the same suppliers from the previous La Xarxa; the meat from Discarlux, fresh fish and seafood from Peixos Sampera, fruit and vegetables from Pau Santamaria, or the selection of wines from Vila Viniteca and Dicomsa, not to mention the cheeses selected by Eva Vila de Vila Viniteca.

The stand-out dishes include the famous ugly Cod Omelette made fresh to order, the Seafood Truffle (its most popular croquettes), the Langoustine Taco with pico de gallo and chili mayonnaise, the Macaroni stuffed with Pork Cheek in its juice or the 300 gr. Fillet Steak with glazed shallots and fries, to name just a few of the dishes featured on the short Summer menu.
