La Dama, BCN classic

New Management

By Brian Gallagher 24.05.23

The details matter at La Dama. Without doubt this restaurant is one of Barcelona’s favourites down through the decades (originally opened in 1984) and is now under new management. The La Dama experience is one that begins long before sitting down to dine. The building itself, Casa Sayrach is a masterpiece that creates an otherworldly setting with its roofline (that references Monserrat) and the late modernisme style design. The gorgeous entrance leads diners to a former apartment on the entresuelo that now accommodates the cocktail bar and restaurant. Inside awaits a magical world that has been carefully curated to provide a holistic experience; food, cocktails, excellent service, music and ambience.

The food offering is classic Catalan cuisine with French influences. A delicate combination of Mediterranean recipes and French classics. Main dishes like the Sole Meunière and the Wellington Duck Magret, or the Lobster Spaghetti alla Chitarra Arrabiata. Choose from a selection of vegetables to accompany the mains. While the selection of first course options is ideal for sharing, with a wide range of choices; Tarragon Oysters, the Pears, Figs & Gorgonzola salad, Burrata Pugliese or the Steak Tartar “La Dama”.  The wine selection is mostly Spanish with French and Italian labels, however a cocktail at La Dama is obligatory.

The interior décor at La Dama recalls the origins of the restaurant as an apartment. The cocktail bar just inside the entrance sets the scene with its moody lighting and authentic atmosphere. There’s a bar menu available here serving tapas and selected dishes through the day. That leads to a series of separate rooms with make up the main dining area, the original layout is intact but now accommodates the kitchen and other private rooms. The light fittings, the artworks on the walls and the furniture represent a mixture of different eras. All perfectly in-tune. The new La Dama is somewhere that you’ll want to come back to whether for lunch, dinner, cocktails or afternoon tapas.
