Honest Greens, Pla de Palau
Fast food meets healthy food
There has never been a time when we have had access to so much information about healthy diet and nutrition. And yet there has never been a time when we have been tempted by so much unhealthy food options, including processed foods, unrefined sugars, fast food etc. Honest Greens is a response to this scenario with a culinary project that serves fast healthy, varied and tasty food which, most importantly of all is very affordable. Including vegan and vegetarian options as well as catering to meat eaters Honest Greens aims to democratise healthy eating.
It’s a truism but nevertheless needs to be said again and again “we are what we eat”, but equally it’s true that time pressures and how we live today means that we just don’t have the time to prepare every meal from scratch. So having a fast food style option that only serves freshly prepared selection of snacks and dishes kills two birds with the one stone, so to speak. The menu is divided into main dishes, salads, side orders and a choice of side dishes for sharing. Suppliers are carefully selected and the fact that the entire menu changes twice a year means that the dishes are seasonal. The preparation of 30 or more sauces daily is a testament to Honest Green’s commitment to fresh and healthy food philosophy.

Eating well should not mean sacrificing on the ‘eating out’ experience, and Honest Green doesn’t disappoint. Dishes are presented in a very attractive way with layered garnishes and side orders colourfully combined. The location, in the Born on the Pla de Palau with panoramic windows over its two facades, fills the interior with light as well as having a small terrace area on the plaza. All customers must joint a fast moving queue on arrival and order (either for coffee or for eating), an electronic device is then provided which signals when the order is ready. The seating is open plan, organised around the open plan kitchen with a few more private corners to the Pla de Palau façade. The materials throughout reflect the sustainable approach to food, cement floors, ceramic tiles wall cladding, wicker lampshades, quality timber joinery and furniture.

More than 90% of the products are plant-based although there are animal protein options. The food offering is built around seasonal produce, when it is in its best condition and most nutritional, and proximity of origin in about 80% of the food, as well as the meats with carefulyy selected providers who use sustainable breeding: the chicken is free-range, the veal is grass-fed and the fish, from sustainable fishing.
