Tribute to Rosa Gil at Casa Leopoldo

By Silvia Micolau 04.06.25

A year after its reopening by the Banco de Boquerones restaurant group, the emblematic Raval restaurant Casa Leopoldo has hosted a tribute to its historic and charismatic owner, Rosa Gil.

The lunch La Barcelona que fue has been attended by old friends such as Eduardo Mendoza, author of La ciudad de los prodigios, Daniel Vázquez Sallés (son of the writer, gastronome and regular Manuel Vázquez Montalbán), the chef Carme Ruscalleda, the president of the Acadèmia Catalana de Gastronomia i Nutrició Carles Vilarrubí, and the mayor of Barcelona Jaume Collboni, among many other guests.

  • The menu has included classic dishes - Oxtail in red wine with potato parmentier, Meatballs with cuttlefish, seafood paella - which are still on the list, together with new dishes of Catalan market cuisine, such as Octopus with mongetes del ganxet and desserts such as their version of crema catalana.

  • Amidst tiles, photographs and posters from other eras, Gil, to whom a private pink room has been dedicated, has recounted anecdotes, including the visit of a disgruntled Juliette Binoche, the fights of Lola Flores and Manolo Caracol, and Joaquín Sabina's pleas for a ration of clams.

  • Excited, remembering that she learned everything from her father, Germán “El Exquisito”, heir of Leopoldo, founder of the establishment, and grateful, she said ‘My ego is more than covered’, and closed the event by singing a copla and a fado.
