Obbio
Obbio offers a fresh approach to food shopping in Barcelona; a well designed interior, knowledgeable and friendly staff, affordable prices, wide aisles, carefully constructed displays, a cafeteria and delicatessen, workshops and information this recently opened supermarket offers a very different supermarket experience. Located in the heart of a well established neighbourhood in the Eixample on Muntaner (between París and Córsega) the space consists of 800 sq.m. dedicated to the culture of healthy eating. If we are what we eat then the mission here is to supply and inform customers about the very best local and provincial produce on offer as well as advising them on a balanced and varied approach to its consumption. The layout includes a fresh fruit and vegetable section, general household goods (including cosmetics), a cafeteria and coffee shop located at the rear with natural daylight and an outdoor terrace, a delicatessen with takeaway food as well as a food themed book shop at its centre.

Obbio is a great current example of the future of food shopping. Catering to carnivores, vegans, vegetarians and gluten intolerant customers the project is the brainchild of two passionate foodies who have created a ‘concept store’ revolving around quality food which is about as far removed as possible from a weekly trudge to the local supermarket. Fundamentally based on three promises, all products on sale are vouched for, a carefully manicured image and the most competitive possible price range. The design is minimal but well lit and generous, never distracting from the real protagonist here which is the food. Its restaurant/cafeteria is a great place for new customers to get a taste for Obbio’s food philosophy.

Opening hours are from 9am through 9pm, Monday through Saturday. Obbio also delivers and will be introducing an online shopping service later in 2014, seminars and talks are organised and the bookshop features publications on new food trends and classic recipes.
