FIRE BCN & Eclipse

Elemental gastronomic experience

By Brian Gallagher 25.10.20

The setting of a new restaurant helps create first impressions and FIRE Barcelona is hard to beat on that front, located as it is off the lobby of the W Hotel Barcelona. The generous entrance lobby which straddles the Port Vell leads directly to FIRE occupying a privileged position with views over the entire length of the coast line looking north. The kitchen, protected behind a glass partition, is on full display and creates an ongoing floor show that is complimented by the cocktail barman practicing mixology for FIRE’s diners.

The speciality at FIRE is the range of grilled dishes as the name of the restaurant would suggest, but not just the main courses the selection of starters and side dishes as well. The menu includes different options to share for couples or groups as well as a-la-carte, the structure is straightforward and reassuringly easy to understand at first glance. Carlotta Delicato is the young chef with a nevertheless solid career behind her, responsible for the culinary offering at FIRE. One that is sure to appeal to a broad range of locals and hotel guests – the W Hotel has 473 rooms (one of the city’s largest hotels).

The stand-out main dishes from the grill include the Tenderloin, Striploin, and Chicken. Ask about the fish specials, the grilled Leek should not be missed – a version of the famous calçots, with Romesco sauce. The Watermelon carpaccio is also highly recommended, managing to be refreshing, flavoursome and wholesome. The set-menu HEATWAVE is a good option during the weekends, with 3 hours of parking included. And no menu is complete without a range of desserts. The highlight of the dessert menu is the famous Chocolate Dome – with Apple Tarte Tatin as well as the Apricot Cheesecake and Strawberry Gazpacho close contenders.

The décor is also inspired by FIRE, light fittings that recreate dancing flames, a colour scheme dominated by oranges, reds and earthy tones. Metal frames and rotating panes of glass break up the space into open and more intimate areas. The views over the Mediterranean provide the ideal accompaniment and ensure an unforgettable overall dining experience. Seating continues to an outdoor terrace which can be enjouyed all year round and for an after dinner cocktail you don’t even have to leave the building. Just take the lift to the 27th floor and the bar staff will look after your every need while enjoying some of the most spectacular and unique views over Barcelona. Order a cocktail, listen to the sounds and soak up the atmosphere.
