Theatre and tapas at El Principal de l'Eixample

Marking the launch of a new phase the El Principal de l'Eixample restaurant presents ESPECTAPES an creative initiative that brings together theatre and gastronomy within a cycle of live music performances which is taking place every Tuesday at 8. 30 pm within the Library room of El Principal, till the end of April. The idea came about through Adria Ferré Aparicio and Bernat Cot Ponti, two passionate fans of theatre who were inspired by the elegant surroundings of one of the most beautiful restaurants in Barcelona.

Espectapes was conceived as a series of three cycles offering innovative and entertaining musical theatre. The first cycle which took place on Mondays during the month of February was titled "I got Gershwin"; the second, "Cantar al Desamor" took place every Tuesday during March and ends this Tuesday 31st, and the third, "Modales" will take place during the month of April, beginning after Easter week, on Tuesday the 7th of April.

    During the show tapas will be served, made especially for the occasion, with the unmistakable stamp of chef Joan Ferré, who worked with the Grupo Tragaluz for 25 years before embarking on this venture. Food and theatre are brought together here in a single activity, created to spend time with friends watching a show and enjoying the gourmet tapas.

    “Cantar al Desamor” starring actress and singer Mercè Martinez, accompanied on piano by Andreu Gallén explores the problems of love through boleros, pop songs, jazz standards and 20th Century musicals.

    “Modales” (good manners) is based around a company that organizes conferences, lectures and symposia to teach us how to behave at the table. Bernat Cot, Víctor Gómez and Oriol Bures present a youthful and musical show with lots of audience participation in a laid back live performance, filled with humour and surprises.
