El Principal opens its interior courtyard

By Brian Gallagher 16.10.13

One of Barcelona’s most beautiful rooms which just so happens to be outdoors, El Principal has recently opened its latest gastronomic space which is in reality a courtyard situated within the very heart of the Quadrat d’Or ‘golden square’ in Barcelona’s Eixample. Formerly the courtyard of the El Principal restaurant its neoclassical architectural language and balanced proportions provide a perfect venue for a laid back special occasion. Four trees planted centrally provide a protective canopy while the terrazzo flooring and terrace furniture convert the space into comfortable salon with views into the adjacent enfilade library and dining rooms of the building.

  • Serving midday lunch at the weekends and holidays, the idea is to share in company with a fixed price of 30 Euros that includes mixed starters, a main course rice dish, beverage, coffee and dessert. Apéritifs consist of five dishes for sharing: mini ham croquettes, fried artichokes, anchovies and boquerones, seasonal green salad, carpaccio and foie mousse tostaditos. The main course, always featuring rice changes periodically, as are the desserts, which are adapted to the season.

  • As always El Principal maintains its usual offering but with some changes introduced for the autumn. Defined by its seasonal produce and Mediterranean cuisine new tapas options and main half rations dishes have also been added.
