Desoriente, plant-based cuisine
Now in the Eixample
Since opening in 2023 within the Poblenou neighbourhood Desoriente has slowly but surely built its fan-base. The plant-based reinterpretation of Asian cuisine combines healthy food, a playful style, a youthful ambience and most importantly of all delicious taste. And now Desoriente comes to the Eixample, to a location at the very epicentre of Barcelona’s latest gastronomic hub. Positioned on the chaflan at the intersection of C/ Valencia with Enric Granados, with a bright, spacious and colourful setting. Chefs Cliff Ubaldo and Maurizio Gorga have created a menu that continues the tradition of vegan dishes that can be shared with anyone no matter what their food preferences.
Desoriente replicates its innovative menu from Poblenou at the new location, with classic dishes including: the Tikka Masala bao combines the popular boiled bao bun from the Chinese tradition with a flavourful tikka masala filling from Indian cuisine, substituting textured soy petals for chicken. Oishi Broccoli, is one of the most requested starters (and on the menu since the beginning), consisting of fried broccoli served with ponzu sauce and roasted cashews: a crunchy and healthy starter or side. The playfully named Operation Bikini, presented as a Katsu Sando (Japanese sandwich), where breaded chicken is replaced with crispy and juicy seitan, accompanied by sweet and sour stir-fried cucumber in a Chinese style and Caesar dressing (inspired by the famous salad).

Continuing the Japanese theme there are several sushi options, plant based versions with the same textures and combination of flavours as the original: from the thistle mushroom nigiri (with tapioca caviar, wasabi and pickled ginger) to the most popular uramakis, such as the Foie-gras roll (inspired by French cuisine, with shiitake, caramelized apple, wasabi reduction and port) or the Futomate Tartar (avocado and homemade fermented cheese with tomato tartar topping, teriyaki sauce and crispy onion).

The cuisine at Desoriente is also healthy, without being preachy or making a big deal about the environmental and health benefits of this diet. This approach to a healthy mind in a healthy body is based on plant-based recipes but, above all, on making everything on the menu from scratch, including bao buns and fermented foods. The kombucha and ginger beer made on the premises aim to offer alternatives to commercial soft drinks.
