Chocolate Amatller returns to the 'Born'
Casa Calicó
The two-hundred-year-old Barcelona brand of high-quality chocolates Amatller, founded in 1797, opens a new store in the Born district, where its first workshop was founded 227 years ago. This historic brand - still in existence today thanks to the prestigious chocolate company Simon Coll, which acquired it in 1972 - has chosen Casa Calicó, a listed building that is part of the city’s architectural heritage, for the location of the new store, where, in addition to being able to sell its products, different activities will also be offered to the general public.
The project was carried out in collaboration with Barcelona City Council to restore the space, preserving unique original elements such as the hydraulic floor tiles and the old wooden and marble counter. This was the key to allowing Casa Calicó return to this iconic space, which was previously occupied by a fishing tackle shop.

The various activities taking place within this historic establishment allow visitors to discover the brand's legacy, both in the screening room and at the majestic counter, through interactive exhibitions that explain the history of Xocolata Amatller and its cultural impact on Barcelona and how its history and that of the city are interconnected.

They will also organise workshops to learn about the artisanal chocolate-making process and exclusive tastings of the company's most emblematic products, as well as its new products, such as stone-baked chocolate, to prepare the best cup of chocolate you've ever tasted. In this original space you will be able to enjoy the best chocolate and at the same time learn about a part of Barcelona's history.
