Chicken Shop & Dirty Burger
A new take on established classics
When having a meal is just a prelude to going at night, when the decision “what to eat?” becomes a chore, when your taste-buds rebel and demand something simple but nutritious then that is the time for Chicken Shop / Dirty Burger. Two classic dishes that are brought to perfection here at this achingly trendy restaurant located in what is probably Barcelona’s most extraordinary square, Duc de Medinaceli (within the Gothic neighbourhood) one side of which looks over the Mediterranean.
It’s the first venture by the Soho House & Co. group into the highly competitive culinary scene here in Barcelona, or Spain. The food offering created by founder of the group Nick Jones focuses on two staples of world cuisine; the burger (in all its variants) and roast chicken as well as a limited selection of side dishes like the curly French fries, corn cobs, coleslaw and baby lettuce with avocado. The space is noisy, chaotic and energetic filled with good looking wait staff carrying trays of generous dishes within a labyrinthine collection of dining spaces accompanied by great sounds. There is also a terrace opened during the summer months with a capacity for 40 diners.

The main dinig area of Chicken Shop / Dirty Burger
There are several variations on the burger; the Dirty Burger, the Cheeseburger, the Dirty Bacon and the Dirty Cop-Out (the vegetarian option). Their secret resides in the four different cuts of meat used in their elaboration, including hindquarter and tenderloin. The buns are baked in order to obtain a tender and light result with a light glaze, mark unique to Dirty Burger.

The chickens are sourced entirely from Empordà, from free-range farms, roasted using a simple method and served in quarter, half or full portions. One of the reasons that they taste so good is that the chickens are macerated in a special marinade overnight and are cooked lightly in steam to retain their flavour and juices. Just before serving the chickens are roasted over a coal and wood fire on a spit of designed specifically for the restaurant. The end result; juicy chunks of chicken served at their best with a crispy skin and accompanied by either a spicy or smoky sauces. Both are home made and exclusive to the Chicken Shop restaurants.
