More than 100 years old
Even a century ago Barcelona was a 24 hour city, especially around the neighbourhoods of its markets, like the Mercat del Born, restaurants like Casa Delfín served both the workers and general public around the clock. Nowadays it’s still serving the public although the market has long closed and transformed into a cultural institution. Walking through its doors, or sitting on the terrace in front, is like travelling back in time to when everything was simpler. This essence of traditional dishes and service still defines Casa Delfín today.
Casa Delfín is managed by the Grupo Lombardo one of the most renowned culinary groups in Barcelona, whose establishments include el restaurante Ultramarinos, at the Sea end of the Ramblas, Taller de Tapas, with six branches strategically located around the city and Ajoblanco, the flagship establishment, on Tuset. The restaurant interior was designed by Lázaro Rosa Violan and combines modern touches with vintage décor, the terrace on one of Barcelona’s most beautiful paseos has views of la Basílica of Santa María del Mar and the extraordinary Mercat del Born.
The menu at Casa Delfin offers Catalan market cuisine with some complimentary signature dishes. Traditional tapas and cuchara options: Russian salad with tuna belly, home made sausages marinated in cava, chickpeas with black pudding, Iberian ham and chicken croquettes and the Guijuelo cured ham. Main dishes such as the famous chicken cannelloni, mushroom foie gras and bechamel sauce, a carefully selected choice of DO meats, the Kate hamburger with beef and goat cheese, fresh fish daily from the market, the seafood paella with Pals rice or the tasty suquet pescadores. And finally their delicious homemade desserts; the Madagascar chocolate coulant, the millefeuille of cream with strawberries and chocolate, the pistachio biscuit cheese cake and all accompanied by a wide choice of wines and cavas.
