Canaletes Cerveseria
An urban calçotada + more
It’s that time of year once again, calçots season (spring onions in English) which is typically celebrated at the weekend with friends in the countryside. However, with Cananeletes Cerveseria there’s no need to leave the city centre to have the full-on experience. The latest restaurant to open on the emblematic Ramblas, just off Plaza Catalunya recreates a rustic masia, or country house both in its décor and gastronomic offering. The speciality here is the grill. As well as the caçotada there is a whole menu of other tasty options. Cold and hot tapas, rice dishes, butifarra, lamb, pork, chicken and grilled vegetables as well as the tap beer, of course.
Once again there is another reason to visit this emblematic avenue, which little by little its recuperating its former glory as a gastronomic hot-spot. The recently opened restaurant is inspired by traditional Catalan ways of cooking, specifically the grill, but with a twist, where the common denominator between all of the dishes is the quality of the product. "Ours is an honest cuisine and that’s a great starting point that comes hand in hand with a reinterpretation of traditional ways of cooking together with a wide range of possibilities throughout the year that features local seasonal produce," according to Germán Lérida, Head Chef.

Organised over two floors the interior design combines elements like the traditional volta catalana, characteristic of Catalan farmhouses, tile and brick finishes, as well as a decoration with a rustic feel. The idea is to create an informal setting, but with country charm. There’s a large bar counter on the ground floor for a more relaxed dining offering views over the grill, the concept of show cooking provides the entertainment.

Canaletes Cerveseria recovers the art of "draught" beer as a tribute to all those stands that occupied the central area of Las Ramblas at the beginning of the last century and even the porrón is remember and celebrated, a playful traditional way of drinking that was typical of the countryside, with practice and a little patience even visitors will be able to manage.
