Camping Mar
A garden in a port
Two almost contradictory sensations are at play with Camping Mar, the latest restaurant to open belonging to the En Compania de Lobos group. On the one hand the restaurant appears to be situated in the middle of a garden with lush planting the dining area of which is accommodated within a glass box. On the other hand the restaurant is located under the W Barcelona Hotel in a working port at the very end of the spigot that forms the Marina Vela – a completely new manmade zone, a finger that points into the Mediterranean Sea, just beside the proposed site for the Hermitage Museum.
These two ideas play off one another beautifully within a generous seating area that is flooded with light during the day and with its wide sliding doors feels like being outside. And that is precisely the ambience that Camping Mar wants to capture, the feeling of dining in a garden al fresco with all the security that that provides.

The menu is short but with enough options to keep everyone happy. Reflecting its location there are fish and rice dishes but burgers and a variety of tapas as well. The aim is to provide good quality, fresh and seasonal dishes that are not too expensive. A simple menu of fresh salads, bruschettas and croquetas. With world cuisine dishes like the Shrimp Red Curry with asparagus and cherry tomatoes with Jazmin rice. The marinated Salmon cooked in banana leaves is among the highlights of the autumn menu (a special that is ordered off the menu). The reason for coming here is the sheer unusualness of the proposal, the place and the views. The architecture of the mise-en-scène is exceptional (as it is with all the groups restaurants), two timber boxes are sheltered under the port building next door while the dining area sits apart. One accommodates the kitchen and the other the bar.
