Recalling a private club the interior design features timber panelling and mounted animal heads. The resident bartender and creative energy is provided by Barcelona native Jordi Otero an award winning cocktail barman currently establishing a reputation for himself.

You have established a successful career as a bartender and have served cocktails in many of Barcelona’s best known bars. How would you describe the cocktail service at Bocachica, in what way is it different from other places where you have worked?

The service as such isn’t any different, what sets Bocachica apart is the attitude. We really enjoy our work and our main objective is to make sure that our guests have a good time and will be distracted for a while. 

Why do you think that is such a resurgence in the world of cocktails in the city just now?

I think that for a while we were stuck in a rut regarding cocktails. Just now there are a lot of young people and not so young people interested in bringing back the art of drinking cocktails. Also without doubt the work of the drinks labels all around the world is also helping a lot, but I’d say it’s also down to the work of a younger generation of bartenders who are principally responsible for the resurgence of the art of cocktails in Barcelona.

An all time favourite cocktail?

'Old Fashioned', without doubt. So simple yet compex.
