Carme Ruscalleda at Madarin Oriental

Although Barcelona has an extraordinary offering of great restaurants, wonderful cuisine and world renowned chefs it’s still unusual for all three phenomena to come together in a single experience, like an alignment of the Michelin stars if you will. That however is the case with Blanc, the restaurant that for over a year now has been the acting culinary ambassador for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona, situated in the atrium of the luxurious hotel at the heart of Passeig de Gràcia. A double height space that is drenched with daylight, beautifully designed by Patricia Urquiola (also responsible for almost all of the furniture), comfort and elegant design in equal measure.

Carme Ruscalleda the world’s only chef with 7 Michelin stars awarded to her collection of restaurants and also responsible for the gastronomic offering at Barcelona’s Mandarin Oriental has conceived a day-to-day culinary offering that compliments Moments the gastronomic restaurant also directed by Carme Ruscalleda located on the hotel’s Piano Nobile. Blanc is more laid back and informal offering but nonetheless excellent in terms of quality and experience. The restaurant operates from 7 a.m. till 11.30 p.m. serving breakfast (between 7 and 11), lunch and dinner as well as everything in between; Snacks, Afternoon Tea (with a selection of their home made pastries and cakes), tapas etc.

    The cuisine is inspired by seasonal ingredients with a focus on traditional Catalan recipes, reinterpreted from a contemporary perspective. Emblematic dishes like the cannelloni, salmorejo, local fish and meat options as well as Ruscalleda’s signature rice. There is a seasonal menu as well as a shared Lunch and Dinner menu, another of the highlights is the 55’ Lunch Menu which is pitched at business meetings (and competitively priced at 36 Eur..) but is also a great option for anyone with limited time, or wants an informal introduction to the cuisine of Carme Ruscalleda.
