The season of the open air terraces is with us once again, the best are undoubtedly to be found on the roofs of the city’s hotels, whether in the Eixample, the Port, the Old City or the Raval. Not only are the views jaw dropping many also have special culinary offerings, cocktail bars as well as live entertainment laid on for the general public to enjoy. Here we present our top top 12 for the coming summer season. Some are completely new and some are well known and loved already, each has something uniquely magical about it.

    Designed by architect Patricia Urquiola El Terrat is part of the overall expansion of the Mandarin Oriental Barcelona,El Terrat offers incredible 360° degree views over the city. This multifaceted rooftop terrace has two distinct characters depending on the time of day or night. The special menu includes Nikkei options as well as cocktails like the Bellinis or classic Mojitos. Open to the public from 6 in the afternoon till 2 in the morning during the summer months. Food served till 11 PM.

    Located on the roof of Barcelona’s Grand Hotel Central on Via Laietana this terrace has truly exceptional panoramic views over the old city, the Mediterranean and just about everything else. Equipped with an infinity pool (lit from below), terrace seating over various levels, a DJ and impressive sound system the terrace is open to the general public daily from 8.30 pm through 0.30.

    Situated on the corner of Passeig de Gràcia with Rosselló the Hotel Omm’s roof terrace faces directly over the sculptural roof of La Pedrera, Gaudi’s seminal architectural masterpiece. The terrace is or organised linearly with a central cocktail bar at its heart under a tall timber pergola with a pool at one extremity and an ample sitting area at the other. Open to the general public from 7pm to 1am this is one of the most welcoming terraces in the city centre and its location makes it the ideal spot to start off Barcelona nights enjoying a cocktail or their Sushi bar (open from 8 PM).

The terrace situated on the seventh floor of the hotel is open to the general public every day from 19.00 till 1.00 and serves cocktails, drinks and ‘pinchos’ (finger food).

    Titled ‘Roba Estesa’ which in Catalan means clothes hanging out to dry, located in Barcelona’s most charming square Sant Felip Neri and the only hotel in the city listed by Relais & Châteaux.
