Barcelona Beer Festival

Las Arenas shopping centre dome

The weekend of the 8th, 9th and 10th of March the latest edition of Barcelona Beer Festival will be taking place including lectures, workshops and other activities. This the second edition aims to promote the culture of quality craft beer consumption as well as the microbreweries that produce them both in Catalonia and abroad. This year the festival will be taking place in a larger venue, the Dome of the Las Arena shopping centre on Plaza España.

As this ancestral beverage is not pasteurised craft beer is in fact a ‘living’ product that continues evolving within the barrel or the bottle via the carbonation that is generated naturally in the alcoholic fermentation process. Allowing the beverage to retain its nutritional and its own inherent properties.

  • The four basic elements that give all beers their particular personality are water, malt, hops and yeast. The way in which each are introduced determines the crafted beer’s qualities and that includes a wide range of flavours, bitterness, smells, colours and textures.

  • Currently the number of craft microbreweries is growing sharply in Spain, more than 150 of them will be participating with the festival. 55 of them from Catalonia, 25 from the rest of Spain and 70 from abroad. This time around Flanders Tourism is sponsoring the festival, a city renowned for its beer culture. A range of gastronomic options will also be available. Entrance is free.
