Bananas
Tropical Bites & Drinks in the Borne
Some would argue that the only true antidote for the winter blues is defiance, enjoying oneself despite everything whether it be through socialising, dining or simply having drinks with friends. If that seems like a good ideas then Bananas is a good place to star, located adjacent to the Espai Born Cultural Centre within the effervescent Born neighbourhood, Bananas is a vibrant, colourful and in-your-face venue that is guaranteed to bring a smile to the most Po-faced individual. A restaurant club that caters to a young-at-heart crowd from morning through the wee small hours (opens till 2am at the weekend).
The interior consists of a deceptively large space, a collection of en-suite rooms that are excavated deep within the city block, distinct areas that accommodate the different elements of the restaurant/club, cocktail bar, seating area and chill out zone. Neon lights and garish wall paper, exotic lamps, velvet upholstery and colourful décor are the order of the day. What shouldn’t really work at all turns out to a very bright and eccentric interior that if nothing else it an antidote to the wall-to-wall Lázaro Rosa Violán everywhere else in Barcelona currently.

The interior design is by Yolanda Vilalta and Helena Jaumá, the approach here tastefully reflects tropical climes and its well worn but nonetheless worthy clichés.

The gastronomic proposal perfectly reflects the decor, defined as "international cuisine with tropical Asian twist", it could best be described as a market fresh cuisine based on selected seasonal ingredients prepared simply. The moving force behind this project is Karel Schroder, owner of the neighbouring and highly successful Café Kafka. Schroder has opted for an “exotic cuisine” as well as a selection of cocktails at Bananas and once again has collaborated with Bernardo Dieguez, the restaurant manager. The interior design is by Yolanda Vilalta and Helena Jaumá, the approach here tastefully reflects tropical climes and its well worn but nonetheless worthy clichés. Bananas also has a great view of the new Born Centre Cultural, it offers a casual and laid back dining experience in a fun atmosphere at affordable prices.
