Declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1997, the Recinto Modernista de Sant Pau, designed by Lluis Domenech i Montaner, is nowadays a place where culinary and research activities are carried out side by side, offering an extensive programme of cultural events, and visits as well as being available to rent for different types of corporate and private events. In just one year, since its formal inauguration, over 400,000 visitors have passed through the facility to admire its architecture and art installations. The restaurant attached to the complex '1902. Café Modernista' located at the basement level of the left wing of the main entrance pavilion, is being managed by the Grupo SAGARDI, who have produced a menu that focuses on quality ingredients which reflect Catalan cuisine combined with other classic dishes.

With a culinary philosophy based on simple and unpretentious cuisine, faithful to the raw produce and its origin, the restaurant offers a varied and innovative menu that features traditional local recipes inspired by the city’s markets, as well as international favourites. Among the stand-out dishes on the menu are included; home-made sausages, Folgueroles tomato coca bread with cured ham, fried eggs and cured ham, "cap i pota" (type of Catalan stew featuring tripe) served with chickpeas and home baked bread using stone-milled flour. The wine selection incluyes a white Espelt Vailet, D.O. Empordà-Costa Brava, a red Etxeita, from Rioja Alabesa, as well as a select D.O. Costers del Segre cava. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with an all-day kitchen service as well as offering a fascinating perspective from this unique dining space in Barcelona.
