SÓNAR 2025
12, 13 and 14 June. 5 suggestions for the over 50s
The generation that was in their teens and twenties during the late 80s and early 90s is the founding generation of the rave scene. This is a fact, not an opinion. Today this group sometimes referred to as boomers have 5 or more decades under their belts and many of them are still going out and supporting artists from those golden years, even if the forces are not as strong as they used to be.
With more than 30 years of experience, Sónar is a festival that attracts an audience of very different ages, and where the more mature audience still feels at ease to participate in this classic meeting of electronic music and its derivatives. We have prepared something like a brief guide to 5 proposals from the programme of this year's Sónar 2025, which we believe could please this demanding age group.

PLASTIKMAN
Plastikman is the most iconic alias of Ritchie Hawtin, one of the seminal figures in electronic music. Emerging from the Detroit techno scene in the early 1990s, Plastikman was distinguished by his minimalist approach, characterised by hypnotic beats, deep synthetic textures and an innovative use of acid techno. His debut album, Sheet One (1993), captured the essence of his sound with resonant basslines and an immersive aesthetic, cementing his position as a pioneer of the genre.
Over the years, Hawtin continued to evolve his Plastikman project, exploring new sonic directions and pushing the boundaries of electronic production. Albums such as Musik (1994) and Consumed (1998) reflected a progressive refinement, with a more abstract and ambient sound that highlighted his mastery of sound design.
After a break, Plastikman returned with EX (2014), an album recorded live at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, where he presented a more contemplative and atmospheric version of his signature sound. During the last tour as Plastikman, Hawtin performed surrounded by a cage-like LED structure driven by syncopated computer visuals.
In 2025, we will see him trapped inside a malleable, organic object, pulsing, growing and collapsing in an embryonic fusion of image and sound, and so far we have no further information about his future presentation.

SAMANTHA HUDSON PRESENTS: MUSIC FOR DOLLS
Music for Dolls, the new album by Samantha Hudson, is a work that combines irony and satire with a deeper exploration of her identity and emotions. In this album, the artist maintains her provocative and festive essence, but adopts a more introspective approach, turning it into an emotional diary that reflects one of the most important stages of her life. Through ambitious lyrics and sounds that draw from hard-techno and clubbing, Hudson addresses themes such as dysphoria, imposter syndrome and the anxiety generated by the speed of the music industry.
The album also features collaborations with artists such as Zahara, Villano Antillano and La Zowi, who join her discourse of resistance and struggle for trans rights. Music for Dolls thus becomes a platform for expression and support, where Samantha Hudson not only celebrates diversity, but also confronts her own fears and insecurities. With a reflective closing, the album invites us to forgive the past and live the present in peace, consolidating itself as a key piece in the artist's career.
