Hard Rock goes native

Hard Rock Café

By Brian Gallagher 09.05.13

Recently refurbished the re-imagined Hard Rock Café located in the emblematic Plaza Catalunya was officially inaugurated last May 2nd 2013. Marking its 15th anniversary in Barcelona local group Macaco were chosen to perform live on the new stage which forms the centre piece of the ground floor refurbishment.

The respected reggae band Macaco formed originally back in 1997 by Barcelona native lead singer Daniel 'Mono Loco' Carbonell, formerly of the flamenco group Ojos de Brujo entertained an invited audience of 500 guests. His band mates hailing from Brazil, Cameroon, Venezuela and Spain reflect their eclectic roots with a sound that mixes electro, Latin and Rumba beats with tracks that alternate English, Portuguese, Catalan, Spanish and French.

The menu has also been overhauled and now includes a Barcelona burger which was created by Cris Minimos and features black butifarra (kind of black pudding) and calçots preserve after winning a competition organised by the chain to celebrate the refurbishment project.
