Festival Jardins

Palau Reial de Pedralbes '15

By Sergio Pulido 01.06.15

It’s one of the youngest festivals in Barcelona and without doubt one of the most luxurious thanks to its unique location: the gardens of the Pedralbes Palacio Real, that was once the official residence of the royal family in Barcelona between 1919 and 1931. The auditorium for the concerts is located directly in front of the Palau Reial façade, which is reached via a collection of extraordinary gardens with a total capacity for 2,000.

For this edition, the third, there will be 16 performances catering to all tastes, with classic Spanish pop from Víctor Manuel and Ana Belén, to flamenco shows from the likes of Sara Baras or Miguel Poveda. The un-missable dates that stand for us here are:

Pet Shop Boys (June 8th). They’ll be arriving with a revamped and revised version of their Electric Tour, which is expected to contain some new material which they are working on with producer Stuart Price to be released shortly.

Jessie J (June 18th). The British singer Jessica Ellen Cornish is one of the biggest current stars. Having achieved great success in her native United Kingdom where she became the first and only (to date) British artist to have six top tn singles from the same album in the UK Singles Chart. She’ll be presenting her latest album, her third “Sweet talker”.

Spandau Ballet (June 20th ). Still on the subject of English pop, but in this case it’s about a come-back by one of the key groups belonging to the New Romantics from the beginning of thr 80s. Marking the release of a documentary about their career the Kemp brothers and Tony Hadley are still up to playing those unforgettable hits live.

Bob Dylan (July 4th). It would be pointless to summarize the career of an artist who is perhaps the greatest composer of the twentieth century. At the ripe young age of 73 he’s just released a career one-off: a cover album of Frank Sinatra songs "Shadows in the night", and it ‘s quite obvious, from one song to the next, that we are dealing with a labour of love dedicated to one of his idols. His Neverending Tour which began back in the 80s is ongoing, and there are always surprises on the play list he decides on every night.

We also recommend the latest addition to this year’s programme, the Gastro-musical event by SoundEat! that will be bringing together the best emerging djs on the scene and different creative culinary offerings, Food Truck style all within the setting of the gardens.
