DJ Miss Honey Dijon

Primavera Sound 2018

By Sergio Pulido 27.05.18

We are too used to the fact that superstar DJs are cisgender men, in some cases gay, in some cases heterosexual. And although women like Nina Kraviz or The Black Madonna today are able to fill multitudinous events, that a transgender woman like Miss Honey Dijon can achieve this it is a doubly worthy achievement.

Originally from Chicago, the birthplace of House music, she is a disciple of the legend Derrick Carter, who was her mentor until she moved to New York City and start frequent the Twilo nightclub where Danny Tenaglia was a resident, famous for his long and emotional sets of tribal and dark house that aroused passions back in the late 90's and early 2000. So the identity of Honey goes through a mix between the styles of these two cities, both so important to the history of house music, with a touch of European colour and another touch of LGBT militancy.

Last year she released her debut album, very appropriately named The best of both worlds, of soul-house with acid house touches, which we warmly recommended, and which catapulted her to absolute stardom and turned her into an unusual and resounding star that is today in dancefloors all over the world. Cool and emotional sounds with an anchor in the classic house of all life.
