El Palace Barcelona
The most unusual cinema in Barcelona is currently open for business on Wednesday nights through Sunday. It’s also probably the highest up (in terms of its altitude) and one of the most comfortable. The rooftop garden of The Palace Barcelona hosts a set programme of films till early November. Strictly speaking it’s the solarium over the roof garden and is even higher again. The rooftop also accommodates a dining area, a pool and a cocktail bar under a pergola. It hosts numerous events over the day and can be visited by the general public with a prior reservation.
If not too distracted by the surrounding views the cinema works really well, good sound and because the programme starts after 20.30 the light is perfect for projecting with one of the most beautiful backdrops imaginable as a setting. The capacity is limited by the terrace however the lounger seating can be reclined, (you can also choose normal cushioned chairs) there is a welcome cocktail as well as a tapas menu to order from. And for celebrating something really special transport can be organised from your very door (provided by MVIPS), as well as being returned home after the film is over. The service from beginning to end really stands out, professionals that recall the good old days when Barcelona hotels were open.

El Palace Barcelona is currently closed to staying guests, the opening of the roof terrace represents a tentative step back towards normality. Just passing through the front doors of this iconic building is a pleasure and reason enough to visit. El Palace Barcelona (formerly the Ritz) itself has had so many films made in and around it that it practically a film star in its own right, a genuine icon that is as stunning today as it was 101 years ago when it opened.
