The former Astoria Cinema now simply known as the Astoria (and about to celebrate its 80th anniversary) offers one of the most spectacular live shows on the Barcelona night scene, bringing back something of the glamour that the recession had dulled for a while the recently refurbished iconic venue is once again at the vanguard of Barcelona’s night with a mix of burlesque, cabaret and "varietés". A show that features live performance, dance routines, circus acrobatics, drama and theatre is guaranteed to entertain with literally something for everyone.

Barcelona has a long and proud tradition of Musical Theatre dating back to the 19th Century, famously during the 1930s Flamenco dancers performed topless on Av. Paral.lel, El Molino itself was inspired by the Moulin Rouge of Paris. Over the years artists such as Stéphane Grappelli, Django Reinhardt, Bill Coleman, Sammy Price and Renato Carosone established the city’s reputation for avant-garde and spectacular theatre and reviews. Currently there is a rediscovery of cabaret going on in Barcelona in venues like the refurbished El Molino on Paral.lel and El Teatre Principal on the Ramblas, one of the most spectacular examples is offered by the Astoria right at the heart of the Eixample neighbourhood. The combined cena-espectaculo (dinner show) features “Circus Cabaret” and Astoria’s  gastronomic offering consisting of Mediterranean market fresh cuisine served during the show.

  • "Circus Cabaret" invites guests to travel back through time and fashions: from Modernisme Barcelona, to Berlin’s Cabaret culture of the 40s, New Orlean’s swing of the 50s, American burlesque of the 60s and Broadway musicals of the 80s up to the neo-burlesque, krumping, electro swing and the very latest trends like electro salsa. The lights, the costumes and the aerial circus acts add up to a highly manicured production.

"Circus Cabaret" lasts for two hours with a wide ranging repertoire. All performed live by a cast of 10 performers led by actresses Queralt Albinyana (Les Miserables, Hair, Beauty and the Beast, Grease ...) and Anna Casas (Troianes, Lorca were all 5 noies ia Vestit ...) under the direction of actress Anna Carner.
