Bluesman Cocktail Bar

Live music and cocktails

By B. Gallagher 10.02.17

The Barcelona Palace Hotel presents the Bluesman Cocktail Bar, its renowned basement bar now converted into an intimate cocktail lounge experience with live music and a great selection of cocktails, located in what was originally the Scotch Bar. Constructed during the 1920s in the Belle Epoque style the Palace (The Ritz) has been a Barcelona reference ever since. Entirely refurbished by interior designer Jaime Beriestain recently the basement club is without doubt one of the most spectacular spaces in the city. Intimate, cosy with perfect acoustics and for smokers there’s even a room adjacent where members can smoke freely.

For three days a week the venue hosts live jazz, blues and soul featuring local and international bands such as Reckless (Blues Power), Laura Miquel & RBB, Alba Cayuela Band, Johnny Big Stone & Blue Workers among others. Not forgetting the long established tradition of the great artists staying at the Palace of Barcelona who sometimes come down to the venue for a drink, to chill or jam. Everyone who is anyone has passed through the Palace over the years; politicians, actors icons of popular music. Many have made their way to the basement club. Nowadays Ronnie Woods, of the Rolling Stones fame is the latest celebrity to perform here, Woods (who lives part of the year in Barcelona) is one of the backers of the Bluesman Cocktail Bar and the name Bluesman is inspired by his original black and white artwork which he revised in colour after visiting the Sagrada Familia. The painting hangs in the club.

The club is furnished using the finest leather upholstery, velvet wallpaper, moody lighting and a specially selected fragrance that together with the drinks and tapas served here ensures pleasure for all the senses. Bluesman is like a large comfortable living room, the perfect elliptical shape ensures excellent acoustics. The cocktail bar counter occupies one side of the room and a small raised stage area. As well as the classics there are also more contemporary and creative cocktails as well as alcohol-free options.
