Beefeater In-Edit 2012
10th anniversary
Beefeater In-Edit is a highly unique festival: very few cinema festivals in the world can boast equal attraction for cinephiles and music lovers; by focusing exclusively on musical documentaries it has established a niche with the public that goes beyond the normal film going public.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year a very interesting gust has been invited: Julien Temple, master of the 1980s music video, and maker of features and documentaries related in some way or other to the music industry either directly or indirectly: he made the seminal “Great rock’n’roll swindle” with the Sex Pistols for example and on this occasion some unseen films in Spain like “Glastonbury” and “Glastopia” about the famous Glastonbury festival and its unofficial movements are included, “Requiem for Detroit” about the downfall of a city that was once on the vanguard of music and technology, or 'Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten' another great Temple collage where the voice of Joe Strummer weaves through interviews, Super 8, old films like 1984 or Animal Farm, or performances by The Clash.
The remainder of the programme is also worth a look: the Spanish premier of “Shut up and play the hits” about James Murphy and the break-up of the LCD Soundsystem, “Uprising: Hip hop and the L.A. riots” by Mark Ford about the repercussions and consequences of the 1991 Los Angeles riots on local music; night time marathons with Queen, The Doors and the Chemical Brothers, an autobiographical post-mortem of Serge Gainsbourg, a look at George Martin, the man who filmed The Beatles, a feature about the genesis of “Quadrophenia”, The Who’s masterwork, etc., etc... A good plan for this autumn in an uncertain Catalonia.
