Swab Barcelona Art Fair
Emerging international art visits BCN
The Swab International Contemporary Art Fair, an annual event to discover young artists, emerging trends, and encourage art collecting, celebrates its tenth edition with an updated image, the participation of more than 70 galleries from all over the world, who will come with pieces whose prices range between 50 and 50,000 Eur., and with an important avant-garde component such as an edible stand or PacMan that the attendees will be able to play.
Swab Barcelona, which in the words of its director, the Barcelona architect and collector Joaquín Díez-Cascón, seeks to “provoke, think, feel, love and awaken”, will present eight programmes. Swab Seed, with experimental and independent spaces from Bogotá, Zurich, New York, Berlin, London and Tarragona (La Trastera, which started off in the garage of a house in Segur de Calafell); On Paper, which brings together different techniques, from installation to drawing, connected with a new symbolism, using paper not only as a medium but also as a concept in itself; Swab Performance, with interventions by five young Ukrainian artists working in the fields of art, activism and social justice; Focus Mediterráneo, dedicated to independent platforms from Algeria, Tunisia, Syria, Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Palestine and Lebanon, which highlight voices and discourses that are often outside the traditional art circuit; Ephemeral, focusing on installation, performance or video game, works that interact with the public and pose a reflection on life in a global context and accelerated capitalist system; In / Out, which questions the meaning of being outside or inside by showing artists represented by galleries that may or may not be in Swab; MYFAF (My First Art Fair), which supports galleries with less than two years of experience and allows them to participate freely in their first international fair; and the General Programme, which includes leading galleries from around the world.

The off-Swab venue, Arts Santa Mònica (La Rambla, 7) will host, from September 27 to October 1, the exhibition 'In search of territory'. The show, sponsored by the Swab Foundation Barcelona, revolves around the concept of territory, from its most explicit to the most abstract, starting with the video art pieces of three Brazilian creators on top of their game: Deborah Engel, João Castilho and Ayrson Heráclito.

The route 'Behind the Artist' is also worth noting; curated by Omar López-Chahoud, artistic director of the Untitled fair, invites foreign collectors to visit the workshops of six artists based in Barcelona.
