Powerful, energetic room art
Anka Manshusen
Recent works by the artist and photographer Anka Manshusen (Bremerhaven, 1965) are currently on display at a new exhibition space (Powerful) within the interior design showroom Recdi8, located on C/ Paris at the heart of Barcelona’s Eixample neighbourhood. The exhibition which coincides with the Barcelona Design Week also features wallpapers by Hermes and selected furniture from Gubi and Arflex.
Anka Manshusen is a German artist who lives and works in both Hamburg and Barcelona. Manshusen’s works are inspired by nature. Many of her images take plants as their subject matter, specifically flowers, and sometimes these flowers are shown in a decaying state. One of the other defining characteristics of her work is the colour palette, predominantly pastels shades like pinks, blues, purples, and whites.

The works in the collection on display at Recdi8 feature close-up images of confetti-shaped objects with the exception of one dramatic photograph which features an image of two maritime horizons that use a language of almost imperceptible collage with distorted image effects to distinguish the movement of the sea.
