Barcelona’s Remarkable Museums, Take 5
A museum dedicated to exploring the ideas and inventions which have shaped our contemporary life presented in an interactive and user-friendly format. Pep Torres is the driving force behind this initiative which has been formulated with a view to potentially being franchised in other cities. Miba is housed in an historic building located in the heart of Barcelona’s 19th Century Gotico (1874). With 600 sq.m. over two floors (ground floor and basement) the space has been completely refurbished earlier this year, it was previously the headquarters of the PSUC (Catalan Communist Party) both before and after the transition. The entrance on the ground floor street level also contains the museum shop the basement level is a surprisingly spacious area with its traditional stone vault structure reaching 5 meters in height. The architectural project was designed by the Juanola & De Miguel studio, the original structure has been respected at all times while also providing the modern infrastructure necessary for a cutting edge museum facility. Laboratories, conferences, courses and guided visits are also provided supporting one of the museum’s key ambitions; to inspire new inventions and ideas that will shape our future society.
