Barcelona's Jewellery Week
An homage to contemporary jewellery
La Semana de la Joyería de Barcelona (Barcelona Jewellery Week) is an opportunity to visit the city’s jewellery galleries and workshops where tiny and often wearable pieces of art will be on display. October is traditionally the month when the artistic focus is on both national and international jewellers who work in diverse media to create their pieces. Joya Barcelona Art Jewellery Fair also coincides during the same month as well as Enjoia’t, the annual jewellery exhibition and design awards which this year in 2019 mark their 25th edition. Enjoia’t 19 celebrates the creativity, artistic sensibility and skill of jewellery making. The winners will be announced on Saturday, October 12, during the awards ceremony.
Here below we preview a selection of exhibitions that can be visited by the general public between Oct 10th and Oct 12th as part of the Jewellery Week in Barcelona.

Between Shores
Roots in Scotland - East meets West. Paul from Glasgow and Judy from a small coastal town on the east of the country. The two first crossed paths in their adopted city of Barcelona, which once again reunites the pair. This, their first two-person exhibition, explores elements of place, landscape, industry and common backgrounds. Themes overlap, interest in architecture, city environments, decay, surroundings, barren landscapes.

Gogoisme.2
Art Jewelery Fair, we present the Gogoisme.2 exhibition. Gogoisme is a movement that emerged, as well as the word itself, in 2016 coined by art director Pedrín García and jeweller Grego García, inspired by the avant-gardes founded in the early twentieth century such as Dadaism, Surrealism, Expressionism. Movements that currently no longer come about due to the individualism of art. The idea arose as a result of a joint project that was presented in Amaranto joies that same year. The work which from the beginning was considered as a playful game is named after the figures used for the children's game called GOGOS. These were the common thread to create a series of pieces between the two, based on a sense of playfulness. A project where everything from the materials to the colours and techniques employed are a tool to provoke and transmit a fresh and playful feeling. Starting from this concept 47 artists were invited to reinterpret the Gogoisme, whose result you can see in this exhibition.

La sociedad tiene muchos estereotipos, no solo sobre lo que es un hogar y lo que debería ser un hombre, sino también sobre otros aspectos de la identidad, como la sexualidad, la clase social, el país de origen, solo por mencionar algunos. Es posible funcionar más allá de tales clichés, por ejemplo, un hombre puede ser “blando” y sensible, una mujer no tiene que estar en casa con los niños, y la manera en la que se habla no debería ser un indicador de cómo piensa. Esta exposición tiene como objetivo crear un diálogo entre estos temas utilizando texto, imágenes y humor.
Las piezas no se asemejan a lo que convencionalmente se entiende por “joyería”: son fluidas, goteantes, sexuales, juguetonas e infantiles. No hay jerarquía de materiales; el oro ha sido golpeado y aplastado al igual que las inclusiones de acero, las piezas son ásperas, y la pintura aparece en manchas aplicadas con los dedos. Varios de los trabajos son juguetones hasta el punto de ser obscenos, con la intención de provocar una reacción de risa, vergüenza o contemplación. Las palabras se usan por primera vez en mi trabajo; las piezas quieren hablar a los espectadores y al portador.
Al igual que con el lenguaje, veo las joyas como un medio de comunicación para mostrar lo que pensamos, revelando lo que está debajo de la superficie. La joyería es el medio que he elegido para llevar los temas literalmente sobre el cuerpo; es pequeña y simbólica, un signo de protesta, un sello de identidad que revela una parte de quiénes somos o quiénes queremos ser.

Brossa al Cos
We are interested in contemporary jewellery that, moving in the territory of the object in small format, goes beyond the decorative, which shares concepts, utopias and emotions like any means of expression. The small format and intention are points in common with poetry. With the selection we present we wanted to celebrate Joan Brossa as a visual poet with unique pieces that incorporate a conceptual touch, a poetic brushstroke, a surreal pinch and a sarcastic something. Small wearable objects that we hope can bring a smile to your face.
